Case Study: Mobile App Redesign - Interactive Hi-fidelity Prototype

Duration: 6 weeks

Role: Project Manager

When: August 2022

What I Did: Competitive Research, Analysis of materials, Client meetings, User Interviews, Time management, A/B Testing, Define, Sketch, Wireframe, Prototype, and User testing.

Project Overview

My group of four worked on a Pro Bono project for Reveler, who has a desktop site and actively going through a redesign of their aesthetic. The client approached us with a need for an app that would enhance the experience of watching a sports game in public spaces like sports bars. Most importantly they needed Hi-Fidelity screens and a short video of the app for their presentation at Techstars.

Observation and Research - start with a plan to make a touchdown

Competitive Research + Analysis of materials + Client meetings + User Interviews + A/B Testing

How it begain.

Mood board of their Branding that gave inspiration.

How it ended.

The ultimate goal was for Clients to have materials for presenting at Techstars.

1st sketch of Event Room

I had thought the double carrot button to lower and raise the chat would help with how many features were wanted. Thought the screen behind chat could hold the Trivia or Bar sponsored things like their Menu where you can order.

1st sketch of Home screen with Map

One idea I had for the Map was to have people who were at the event upload a very short video of them having fun and it would show up on map or the bar page to help with hype and get more people to join.

What sets Reveler apart form other sport apps that we made sure to pay extra attention to.

Thought process- there is order in the chaos

Meeting + many hours alone

Live Event screen

Looking at the proposed feature categories by the client, I ensured the groupings had logical organization.

When the possibility of being able to gamble from the Event screen in the app, I thought about how it was not legal everywhere and about the fact that they had actually moved to Georgia recently so I looked into the legalities of it. Even if I was only responsible for providing presentation materials, I did not want my clients to be blind-sighted and thankfully they decided to use a 3rd party for the gambling experience.

Trivia slider inspiration

We were trying to figure out a way to incorporate the Trivia in a way that would allow the user to easily see and get to from the chat screen but never leave the chat.

Pop-ups were talked about but that would have gotten in the way of the users' experience. Trivia needed to be on the users' terms. Having chat slide to the side was also out because it would not be easily identified or shown visually.

We got inspiration when we watched a video of another app. Talking it through, we knew the file-like movement would be perfect for our needs.

Bar page creation

I got the inspiration for this page from a couple of different areas. Red was chosen as a prime color here to help balance out the Branding colors throughout the app.

There were so many types of information that could be added but I did not want to overwhelm the user. I wanted to have a max of 3 clickable buttons where they could look for more bar details. So I choose the things that would be most relevant to a sports event at a bar.

I also had to ensure that there was a way to join the event and I wanted to have a way a person could add the event straight to their personal calendar for easy use.

Map with bar overview

The hovering aspect of the location description over a map is rarely done but easily understood. This helps the app feel more modern and simple. If the user wanted to, they can also turn it to list view.

Giving the user full control on how they wish to view things.

Reveler Powered Map

Ensuring the app stands out in more ways than one, we gave it a different look by darkening the map. We wanted to get the sports fan to start getting into the mood just from searching for an event that participated with Reveler.

Also, the personalized pins for venues that participate with Reveler are intensified in color to really stand out.

Get Revved up to participate

One feature our clients wanted was a cheer meter to encourage people to participate in the app, game, and others around them.

This would be an interactive timed event that would be rewarded by participating venues.

Loudest team would win a Beer Token!

To help people feel like winners and give the experience more of a climax, we added a coin flip animation for the Beer Token.

Prototype Video - gotta see it to believe it
